Belfast, Bucksport battle in preseason pitch affairs

Bonarrigo nets three goals as Lions boys win big, while girls fall in close match

Bucksport — With the regular season on the horizon, the Belfast soccer teams made the short trek north across the Penobscot River to Bucksport High School on Friday, Aug. 30 for a pair of preseason pitch affairs with the Golden Bucks.

The end result was a split decision on the afternoon as the Lion boys prowled to a lopsided 8-1 win, while the Golden Buck girls prevailed in a tight 1-0 contest.

In the boys game, Vincent Bonarrigo creased the net three times for Belfast, while Brandon Cournoyer, Holden Nichols, Jeremiah Porter, Will Robbins and Marco Melotti pumped in one goal for the visitors. Cournoyer also logged two assists.

Chance Clark minded the net for the Lions and made eight saves on nine shots, while Belfast held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The name of Bucksport’s goal scorers were unavailable.
