Belfast Co-op seeks board candidates

Jan 15, 2014

The community-owned Belfast Co-op's board of directors seeks candidates for this year's election. There are five current board members whose terms end in 2014; at least three are planning to run for re-election. Directors elected in 2014 will serve three-year terms ending in 2017. The application deadline is Sunday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m.

The board of directors meets monthly to discuss critical policy issues to ensure the Co-op best serves the needs of its member-owners. Serving on the board is an excellent way to develop leadership skills, learn more about policy and business (specifically co-operatives), and make a meaningful contribution to your co-op, a local member-owned business.

Member-owners are also encouraged to serve on the Co-op's board committees, another very valuable way to contribute to this democratically controlled business. The list of committees can be found on the Co-op's website: under membership, as well as in their print newsletter.

To be a director, you must be a Belfast Co-op member-owner. Candidate application packets can be picked up in the store at customer service, and an application can be found on their website at: Interested parties can also email the nominating committee at: or leave a phone message for them at 338-2532.

The community-owned Belfast Co-op, open 7:30 a.m.  to 8 p.m. daily, is located at 123 High St. in downtown Belfast. All are welcome.
