Belfast Garden Club’s Open Garden Days series of Friday fundraising events launches June 22, allowing visitors to enjoy visits this summer to nine different gardens in and around Belfast — from striking residential displays to community gardens.

Each of the following gardens will be open on a designated Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, with a $5 donation that supports the Garden Club’s public garden maintenance and its annual scholarships to Waldo County youth.

All offer easy terrain unless otherwise noted. For more details and driving directions, see the club’s website at belfastgardenclub.org. A season pass to visit all nine gardens can be purchased for a discounted rate of $30 at Left Bank Books, 109 Church St., Belfast. This year's schedule follows:

June 22: Humphreys & Ferguson Garden

These gardens, at 188 Upper Bluff Road, Northport, with panoramic views to Penobscot Bay, include 75 varieties of peonies as well as hostas, roses, daylilies and more.

June 29: Hormel & Bixby Garden

This oceanside garden at 13 Eldorado St., East Belfast, offers visitors delightful pockets of color, structure, and texture with many shades of blue featured..

July 13: Penobscot Shores

This community of waterfront cottages and apartments at 10 Shoreland Drive, Belfast, features a wildflower meadow created in conjunction with Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition, in addition to raised beds used for herbs and vegetables. Refreshments will be available in the patio garden and lobby of the Ocean House.

July 20: Bond Garden

This 1849 home at 15 Congress St. is complemented by a cottage-style perennial garden, fenced vegetable garden, herb garden and grape arbor.

July 27: Belfast Ecovillage and Cohousing

Celebrating its first decade, this community of highly energy-efficient homes at 25 Village Road, Belfast, will be showing off both the personal gardens of several residents and the shared vegetable beds that help provide food for some communal meals.

Aug. 3: Stanford Garden

Low-maintenance perennials, along with trees and rockwork are dressing up a formerly vacant lot at the site of this waterfront home built four years ago at 1496 Atlantic Highway, Northport.

Aug. 10: Hause Garden & Studio

Creativity abounds at this residence and studio of an artist where visitors are greeted by a nearly life-sized bear statue, a wisteria-covered trellis and bountiful hydrangea and hostas. Visitors can also see a large collection of houseplants indoors at 66 Congress St., Belfast.

Aug. 17: Conard & Randall Garden

The 50-acre Piper Stream Farm has a 1,600-square-foot vegetable garden, orchard, small greenhouse and a wide range of native and horticultural shrubs and perennials at 35 Piper Stream Road, Northport.

Aug. 24: McLeod Garden & Studio

Featured in this spring’s issue of Coastal Home magazine, this 76 Patterson Hill Road in East Belfast is exploding with color and texture.  Visitors can peek into the artist’s open Bright Bird Studio but should be prepared for moderately uneven terrain.
