Director Greg Marsanskis leads a rehearsal with James Clayton and Christine West for the Belfast Maskers “An Evening of One-Act Plays."

Belfast — The Belfast Maskers present “An Evening of One-Act Plays” with original work by four Maine playwrights. The playwrights are David Susman of Saco, Kevin O’Leary of Portland, Travis Baker of Orono, and Belfast’s own Eddie Adelman. The production will take place curbside from June 17 through 26 at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court St.

Director Gregory Marsanskis, who has decades of experience on the local theater scene, said, “I was ‘wowed’ by the quality of the plays that we were able to choose from. They run the gamut from nostalgia to wild comedy, from gaining closure with the past to confronting the looming technology of the future. I am quite excited to bring these plays to the Maskers’ stage.”

Marsanskis got his start in the Maskers' 1990 reprisal of “Twelfth Night.” He said, “I saw the Maskers perform the show earlier in the year and found that they made Shakespeare understandable. If they could do that, I wanted to be part of this group.” Since then, he has acted, stage-managed, designed and built sets, and served as part of stage crew as a lights and sound operator in more than 30 Maskers’ plays. He has also worked with Midcoast Actor’s Studio and directed plays for both organizations including “Shooting Star” and “All In The Timing.”

“An Evening of One-Act Plays” has the following casts: “Great Escapes,” by Susman, features actors Christine West and James Clayton; “Gloria Anderson,” by O’Leary, is acted by Chris Van Doran and Mark Durbin; Adelman wrote “O’Hare-Gate4A,” starring actors Robyn Tarantino and Robert Porter; and “The Store,” penned by Baker, has actors Tom Maycock, Bob Nichols, Beth Whitman, Scott Taylor, Cassidy Small, Jared Nickerson and Andrea Butler. Sound and lights will be handled by Jay Rosenberg, Jared Nickerson and Patricia Saucier. For pre-show, interlude and post-show, Marsanskis has chosen recorded music by Maine artists, in keeping with the plays being written by Maine playwrights.
