Belfast, Mount View cap regular season, Lion Sweet qualifies for states

Brooks — The Belfast and Mount View golf teams renewed their Waldo County links rivalry at the par-36 Country View Golf Club on Wednesday, Sept. 20, as the host Mustangs looked to even the season score with the Lions — and also secure their first win of the campaign.

The Mustangs, ultimately, came up short in both cases as the Lions clawed to an 8-1 win, as the visitors outshot the hosts by a four-golfer stroke total of 205-244.

Belfast’s Tommy Walker shot 49 to earn medalist honors.

The individual results, with Belfast golfers listed first, were: Macy Gale (54) halved with Jordan Roux (57), Walker (49) beat John Clifford (66), Ryan Fitzjurls (52) halved with Lucas Ford (58), Anthuine Brunette (53) beat Chase Roberts (63) and Madison Hemingway (53) beat Shawn VonOesen (82). Alexis Sweet also shot 52 for Belfast.

In an earlier match this fall, Belfast also beat Mount View 9-0 on Sept. 1 at Northport Golf Club.

Belfast 4.5, Lincoln Academy 4.5

At Wawenock on Sept. 22, the Lions and Eagles ended in a tie, but Belfast earned the team win due to a tiebreaker with the fifth individual score. Lincoln Academy finished with a four-golfer team stroke total of 207 to 208 for Belfast.

The individual results, with Lions listed first, were: Artem Richter (51) lost to Basil White (41, medalist), Tommy Walker (50) beat Dawson Wall (78), Alexia Sweet (54) beat Quincy Perry (55), Kristina Walker (53) halved with Alex Fabiano (53), Madison Hemingway (54) beat Andrew Greenleaf (58) and Macy Gale (64) beat Jake Maker (67).

Additionally, on Saturday, Sept. 23 at J.W. Parks in Pittsfield, the state girls qualifier was held. Golfers played 18 holes and the cutoff was a score of 100.

Sweet shot 96 to qualify for the state individual championships on Oct. 14, while Hemingway finished at 116, Gale 110 and Kristina Walker 114.

Camden Hills 8.5, Belfast 0.5

At Northport Golf Club Sept. 19, the Windjammers cruised to the victory in a makeup match. Camden Hills finished with a four-golfer stroke total of 164 and 207 for the Lions.

The individual results, with Belfast golfers listed first, were: Dyllan Clark (73) lost to Cole Anderson (36); Kristina Walker (55) lost to Braden Fisher (42); Tommy Walker (48) lost to Conor O'Dwyer (43); Macy Gale 46 halved with Sam Conlan (46); Hunter Simmons (58) lost to Jonathan Mohoney (43); and Daniel Groening (74) lost to Nate Johnson (43).

Anderson finished as medalist at 36.

In exhibition matches, Ryan FItzjurls (49) beat Drew Minery (57); Chance Clark (55) beat Alec O'Dwyer (73); and Antoine Brunette (51) beat Bryler Fisher (57).

Camden Hills 9, Mount View 0

At the Samoset Resort Sept. 22, the unbeaten host Windjammers defeated the Mustangs. Camden Hills finished with a four-golfer team stroke total of 155 to 271 for Mount View.

The individual results, with Windjammers listed first, were: Cole Anderson (31, medalist) beat Jordan Roux (59), Braden Fisher (40) beat Lucus Ford (95), Conor O'Dwyer (40) beat John Clifford (60), Sam Colan (44) beat Chase Roberts (76), Jonathan Mohoney (45) beat Shawn VonOesen (76) and Nate Johnson (44) won by forfeit.

Additionally, Drew Minery shot 50 and Bryler Fisher 65 for the Windjammers.
