Beverley Maddocks

Northport — It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Beverley Maddocks, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Beverley passed away at home and surrounded by loved ones March 8, 2020. She was born in Northport Feb. 14, 1937, to Earl and Vivian (Small) Griffin.

Beverley lived most of her life in Northport, where she raised her four daughters. After her daughters were adults, Bev pursued a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement. After retiring, she volunteered at the Northport Food Pantry until failing health caused her to retire from volunteer work as well.

Bev enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting hats, mittens and socks for family, and was an avid bird watcher. She and her partner of 29 years, Edward Beckett Sr., enjoyed time at their camp in northern Maine, spending many hours driving the dirt roads searching for wildlife.

In addition to her parents, Beverley was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Thibodeau and Betty Erickson.

Bev is survived by her daughters, Anita Getchell and husband Mike of Albion, Joan Maddocks of Northport, Patricia “Pat” Sawyer and husband Eben of Stockton Springs, and Pamela “Happy” Abbott and husband Rodney of Searsmont; her life partner, Edward Beckett Sr.; grandsons Jami Pendergast, Rex Harriman, Scott Sawyer and Jeremy Sawyer and his wife, Krista; great-grandchildren Sara and Micha Pendergast; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bev’s name to the Northport Food Pantry, 490 Atlantic Highway, Northport, ME 04849.

Arrangements are with Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at ripostafh.com.

The Northport Food Pantry is heartbroken to hear of our long-term volunteer's passing.  She was a key participant in our service growth in our Waldo County community marked by always cheerful, kind, positive service.  We are particularly sensitive to the loss for all of her family and loved ones with special thoughts to her daughter Joan, who has modeled her mother's service to our Pantry with many dedicated hours of her own volunteerism.  We would like to mention that the correct mailing address for the Northport Food Pantry is PO Box 27, Lincolnville, ME  04849.  Our physical address is 489 Atlantic Highway, but we do not receive mail there.  We will deeply miss Beverley's kindness.
