Black Bears corral Mustangs in pre-Christmas games

Mount View boys see four-game win streak come to end

Readfield — The Mount View basketball teams came up on the short end of the stick in their final regular-season games before Christmas on Monday, Dec. 23 as the 'Stangs were downed on the road in a doubleheader against Maranacook.

The Mustang boys' four-game win streak came to an end with an 82-63 loss, while the girls also fell 66-37 to the Black Bears.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Girls

Maranacook 66, Mount View 37

At Readfield Dec. 23, the Black Bears prowled, snarled and clawed past the visiting Mustangs. Maranacook led 15-10, 28-17 and 43-25 at the quarter breaks.

Hannah Coolen, in the midst of a sensational sophomore campaign, netted 26 points for the 'Stangs, while Maddie Knox added five; and Lydia Bryant, Sophia King and Kricket Thompson, two.

Anna Drillen and Gabby Green led the Black Bears with 17 points, while Kate Mohlar added 15; Grace Dwyer, eight; Natalie Whitten, three; and Paige Trask, Kaleigh Kubicki and Allie Labelle, two.

Maranacook made 8-of-10 (80 percent) from the foul line, while Mount View was 8-of-13 (61 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (0-6, no points) is 17th, while Hermon (6-0, 16.3580 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys

Maranacook 82, Mount View 63

At Readfield Dec. 23, the Black Bears remained unbeaten on the season with a win over the Mustangs. Maranacook led 23-10, 48-24 and 67-36 at the quarter breaks.

Cash McClure poured in 28 points to pace the Black Bears, while Corey Cormier added 18; Tim Worster, 17; Joey DuPont, 14; Elias Benjahl, three; and Joe Alben, two.

Garrett Smith scored 18 points to lead Mount View, while Joe Grassi and Declan Knowlton added 11; Sean Raven, nine; Draedyn Furrow, eight; and Elijah Allen, six.

Maranacook was 18-of-21 (86 percent) from the charity stripe, while Mount View was 10-of-12 (83 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (4-2, 11.5432 points) is fourth, while Caribou (5-0, 15.8642 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.
