‘Blazing’ summer comedy for Flix

Belfast — The Classic Comedies for Midsummer Nights continue in July’s Friday Night Flix film series. All the screenings are free and take place at 7 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

Up next on July 20 is “Blazing Saddles” (1974, USA). In a recent interview with Variety Magazine, director Mel Brooks said that “Blazing Saddles” could never be made in today’s politically correct culture — and who could argue with him? No one in the audience is spared; Brooks is an equal opportunity skewer in this sidesplitting take on westerns, starring a ruthlessly talented cast. Years later, Brooks remains unapologetic. As he stated in Variety, “Comedy is … always telling the truth about human behavior.”

The series concludes July 27 with “Murder by Death” (1976, USA). Admission is free.
