Searsport — A long line of parked, gleaming motorcycles wound past the parking lot of the Searsport First Congregational Church and around the side street. Riders of all kinds gathered for a fundraising event held Saturday morning to benefit the church's building and elevator fund.

Breakfast, Bikes and Blessings! was hosted by the First Congregational Church and the Chrome Angelz Riding Club - Wild Spiritz, raising money for an addition to the church that will house classrooms, a meeting space and an ADA elevator.

Ride Coordinator Jessica Hall is also the church's administrative assistant and a Chrome Angelz member. She said Wild Spiritz is the chapter name of their group.

The ride coincides with International Female Ride Day, a movement dedicated to celebrating women on motorcycles on the first Saturday of May each year.

Hall said many riders plan to stop in Searsport for breakfast and then meet up at West Gardiner Service Plaza for more IFRD events and a group photo.

"There is people from the church here and also people from the community," Hall said. "It's a great project."

Hall said the church has raised about $368,000 of the $400,000 needed, and estimated the construction would be done in the next three months. A concrete foundation recently was completed.

"We're really close," she said. "It's the final countdown."

Last year about 60 riders took part in the "Bikes" fundraising event, and Hall said she hopes this year they get 100 people altogether.

Jenn Richardson, a rider with the Red Knights, said several riding groups were present at the event, including members of Widow's Son, Masonic Riders and Motorcycle Riders of Maine.

"For all the animosity between groups, it's great to see them come together," she said. "It's great to see so many people come out."
