Rockland — Georges River Land Trust and Lake Saint George Brewing Co. will co-host a “Paddle & New Brew” Memorial Day weekend fundraiser for the land trust Saturday, May 26, at LSG Brewing, 4 Marshall Shore Road (Sherman’s Corner), in Liberty. The public is invited to attend.

The day will begin with a paddle on Lake St. George at 1 p.m. Paddlers are invited to gather at the Lake St. George public access, just six tenths of a mile north of the brewery on Route 3 in Liberty, with their own canoes and kayaks and life jackets. Georges River Stewardship Program Manager Brent West will lead the paddlers on a tour around the locally renowned Hawaii2 Island ((http://hawaii2.website/). All ages are encouraged to attend, with children being accompanied by adults responsible for their care.

Beginning at about 2 p.m. back at LSG Brewing, owners Danny McGovern, daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Jeff Johnston, will be tapping kegs and filling growlers with their latest craft brew, Headwaters Kölsch, brewed in honor of the land trust.

Outdoor games will be available around the fire pit, with food and music provided by Ezra Rugg from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and by the Ale House String Band from 5 to 7:30.

LSG Brewing has a long history in the area, going back to 1993, when Danny and his partner, Kellon Thames, first opened the brewery as only the sixth brewery to operate in Maine. The resurrection of LSG Brewing just last summer now involves the whole family, including another daughter, Mary, who, with her husband, Matt, operates a brewery on Monhegan.

LSG Brewing will donate a percentage of proceeds from the May 26th event to benefit Georges River Land Trust.

For more information about the event, call Brent West at 594-5166, or Elizabeth Johnston at 891-9838.
