Broncos gallop away from road-weary Lions

Belfast diamond squads blanked against Hampden Academy

Hampden — The Belfast baseball and softball teams trekked north to face Hampden Academy on the high school diamonds on Friday, April 23, a scenario which, ultimately, proved a trying experience for the Lions.

Belfast teams combined for no runs on five hits as the Broncos prevailed, as Lion baseball fell 8-0 and Lion softball 12-0 in five innings.

The following is a recap of the contests:


Hampden Academy 8, Belfast 0

At Hampden April 23, the Broncos allowed only three Lion hits on the afternoon and galloped past the visitors in a shutout victory. Hampden Academy scored one run in the second inning, two in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Jason Bartlett, Chris Kelley and Chase Sanders rapped hits for Belfast.

For Hampden Academy, Jacob Lorzeno (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI), Tom Knott (run), Kolby Moore (hit, run, 2 RBIs), Jacob Wildman (hit), Collin Peckham (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI) and William Dacey 3 hits, RBI) paced the offense.

Bartlett went five innings on the hill for Belfast, as he allowed seven hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Eamon Goscinski tossed an inning of relief, as he allowed three hits and no walks, with one strikeout.

Collin Peckham tossed a complete game shutout for the Broncos, as he allowed three hits and two walks, with six strikeouts.


Hampden Academy 12, Belfast 0 (5 inns.)

At Hampden April 23, the Broncos piled on the runs in the late innings and prevailed via the 12-run mercy rule. Hampden Academy plated two runs in the first inning, six in the third and four in the fourth.

Lexi Hopkins and Alyssah Hastings collected hits for Belfast in the loss.

For the Broncos, Charlee Chute (hit, run), Eliza Murphy (run), Cam Neal (3 hits, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Megan Delehanty (hit, run, RBI), Kacey Gardner (run), Allee Wellman (2 hits, 2 RBIs, run), McKayla Poulin (hit, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Sara Economy (hit, run, RBI), Danielle Masterson (2 hits, run) and Emma Chute (hit, 2 RBIs) paced the offense.

Hopkins pitched for Belfast, as she allowed 12 his and two walks, with four strikeouts. Economy tossed a two-hit shutout for HA, as she walked two and struck out four in the win.
