Brooks man killed in Belfast crash Sunday night

Belfast — A 45-year-old man from Brooks was found dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash Oct. 8, according to police.

Belfast Police, Fire and Rescue responded Sunday at 9:50 p.m. to a report of a vehicle on fire on East Waldo Road in Belfast. Upon arrival, emergency crews found the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, deceased.

As of Oct. 10, police were withholding his name until his mother could be notified. Belfast Police Chief Michael McFadden said other family members had been notified.

Police determined that the vehicle drifted off the road but did not immediately know why.

The Medical Examiner's Office was notified and will determine the man's cause of death. Waldo County Sheriff's Office is reconstructing the crash. The state Fire Marshal's Office also was notified and at the scene investigating.
