Brooks News

Greetings. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who made the community Thanksgiving dinner possible. There was a real sense of togetherness, and just about everything anyone could ever want to eat (including turnips) — all delicious! Here's to next year.

Upcoming holiday events:

Saturday, Dec. 7: The 30th annual Mount View High School Craft Fair will be held at 577 Mount View Road in Thorndike (at the school) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lots of artisans with many different items for sale.

Also on Dec. 7: An Old-Fashioned Maple Christmas Open House at Simmons and Daughters Sugar House from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 261 Weymouth Road in Morrill. Maple everything and horse-drawn wagon rides.

Sunday, Dec. 8: Brooks Country Christmas at the Congregational Church beginning at 3:30 p.m. The annual musical holiday celebration with soups and bread to follow at the Varney Building.

It's that time

The weather outside is frightful — or, earth as hard as iron, water like a stone.

You may remember that when the Planning Board sent out a survey back at the beginning of this year, it included a request that any resident with a special need that could be impacted by an emergency, add their name to a list so they could be assisted. Response was minimal. This would include people who are living alone and would like to be checked on or those with various medical devices that depend on a power supply.

Our EMA Director Lisa Archer asks that you please call the Town Office at 722-3254 to add your name to the contact list. Waldo County EMA Director Dale Rowley has stressed that the most likely emergency would be a power outage that could last for an indefinite time. Be safe!
