Greetings.

I hope you all have been enjoying the unseasonable weather - summer in November.

The election is finally over...hooray (no more junk mail). Let's hope the country can finally unite for the benefit of all of its citizens. Brooks processed 255 absentee ballots for a total count of 602, compared to 589 ballots in the 2016 general election. We are very thankful for our DS 200 ballot reader!

We also need to mention how grateful we all should be for living where we do - Tuesday was a great day with everyone treating each other with respect even though we might all have our own opinions. A special thanks to Brooks poll workers Mike Switzer, Maudine Cunningham, Karen Hudgins, Coleen Putnam, Kris Beirne, Susan Lindsay, Ray Quimby, Holly Parker and Linda Lord - couldn't ask for better and their help was sincerely appreciated during a long, busy day. And kudos to Town Clerk Jane McLaughlin. Great job!

As we all know, Maine (along with the rest of the country) is experiencing a huge increase in cases of COVID-19. This is not a hoax. Please embrace science and do your part.

Unfortunately, I need to let you know that the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Varney has been canceled this year. The Thrift Store continues to be closed until further notice.

Veterans Day was Wednesday, Nov. 11. A ceremony to properly dispose of Old Glory was held at the town Fire Station. It featured the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America. Many thanks to Richard Rote, Commander of American Legion Post 183; Dan Miron, adjutant; the Rev. Russ Arnold, Steve Hall and Daniel Mulcahey, color guard; and Hilton Hanson from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

I've seen a few Christmas trees up already. A little too early for me, but.... There are odds and ends of Christmas decorations for sale at the Town Office. We're raising money for park restoration (as well as cleaning out the basement). Stop in during regular hours for some great deals!

Until next time...peace.
