Bucksport — State and Bucksport Police have arrested a Bucksport woman and charged her with murder in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in 2017.

According to a press release from Maine State Police, Savannah Smith, 21, was arrested at the Spring Fountain Motel in Bucksport just after 6 p.m. Thursday. She had been indicted earlier in the day by a Hancock County grand jury.

Smith is charged in the death of 2-year-old Kloe Hawksley. Smith was the partner of the child's father, Tyler Hawksley.

Kloe was found dead inside a home at 264 Central St. in Bucksport after a 911 call about an unresponsive child at the home on Oct. 18, 2017. State and Bucksport police have been investigating the death since that time.

Smith was taken to the Hancock County Jail and is likely to be in court either today or Monday, according to the press release from State Police.
