Busline League stick teams battle in cagey games

The Busline League middle school field hockey season is in full swing with Midcoast teams  playing with aspirations of hoisting the coveted championship plaque in the coming weeks.

Teams from Oceanside Middle School of Rockland/Thomaston, Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast, Camden-Rockport Middle School of Camden, Nobleboro Central School and Boothbay Region Elementary School comprise the six-team league. Troy Howard has "A" and "B" teams

The playoffs are slated to begin on Thursday, Oct. 12, with the championship game to be played on Thursday, Oct. 19, time and venue to be determined.

Teams play a 10-game regular-season, followed by the single-elimination playoffs. The prelims will be Oct. 12 with as No. 3 hosts No. 6 and No. 4 hosts No. 5. The top two teams receive first-round byes.

Troy Howard has won a majority of the league titles over the past several decades.

Results below may not reflect information from both teams, but only include what is provided.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Troy Howard 2, Oceanside 1

At Rockland Sept. 29, the Lions doubled up the host Mariners.

Collette Black scored the lone goal of the game for Oceanside and Hannah Grindle made 13 saves in goal for the hosts.

Camden-Rockport 5, Nobleboro 0

At Camden Sept. 25, the Schooners sailed past the Lions.

Charlotte Hood and Katie Thorn scored two goals in the win for Camden-Rockport, while Alyssa Bland added one.

“This win was a real team victory, with a strong performance by goalie Molly Shook and our defensive line, as well as some nice plays by the offense,” said Schooner coach Robin Payson.

Camden-Rockport 4, Boothbay 0

At Camden Sept. 18, the Schooners surged past the Wildcats.

Kennedy Peterson scored two goals in the win for Camden-Rockport, while Alyson Shook (goal, assist), Charlotte Hood (goal) and Alyssa Bland (assist) also chipped in for the hosts.

"This win ends a five-year dry spell for CRMS field hockey," said Schooner coach Robin Payson. "Finally these hard-working players are seeing some payoff for all the effort they've been putting in this season."

Oceanside 4, Camden-Rockport 2

At Rockland Sept. 14, the Mariners doubled up the Schooners.

Collette Black had three goals and one assist in the win for Oceanside, while Kaylee Griffin (goal), Erin Stevenson (assist) and Maddie Ripley (assist) also contributed for the hosts.

Hannah Grindle made five saves for Oceanside.

Troy Howard 5, Oceanside 0

At Belfast Sept. 12, the Lions roared past the Mariners.

Hannah Grindle made 12 saves in goal for Oceanside.

Oceanside 6, Boothbay 0

At Rockland Sept. 7, the Mariners blanked the Wildcats.

Colette Black scored three goals and assisted on another for Oceanside, while Maddie Ripley (goal), Allison Colburn (goal), Hannah Grindle (goal), Erin Stevenson (assist), Emma Comparato (assist) and Maria Protheroe (assist) also chipped in on offense.

Oceanside 2, Nobleboro 0

At Rockland Sept. 5, the Mariners earned a victory over the Lions.

Winter Adams scored both goals for Oceanside, on assists by Kaylee Griffin and Colette Black.
