Belfast — Midcoast Actors' Studio Senior Musical Theater Camp will present public performances of “Sweeney Todd: School Edition” Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14, at Troy Howard Middle School, 173 Lincolnville Ave./Route 52 Shows will be 7 p.m. each day plus a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee.

The Tony Award-winning “Sweeney Todd” has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. This special School Edition has been masterfully adapted, working directly with Sondheim to retain the dark wit and grand scope of the original work, with a few lyric and key changes to facilitate high school productions.

Abby Donnelly plays the title role, and Phoebe Norman plays Mrs. Lovett. Maci Burgess plays Anthony; Piper Sewell, the evil Judge Turpin; Sofia Barnard, the sidekick Beadle; and Mercedez Whitmore, the Beggar Woman. Johanna is played by Gemma Bradney, and Eliot Andrews takes on the role of Tobias. Pirelli is played by Annabelle Lisa. Bella Woodbury and Talia LaRue fill out the ensemble, covering multiple roles between them.

MAS Senior Theater Camp is directed by Jason Bannister, with Music Director Nathan Roach and Sarah Joy, assisting with camp and costumes.

"After the success of last year's camp production of ‘Rent: School Edition,’ the kids have stepped up their game with ‘Sweeney.’ It's hard enough to stage this show in two months, let alone two weeks. But they eat, sleep and breathe theater," Bannister said.

Tickets are $5. For more information, call 370-7592 or email midcoastactors@gmail.com.
