If Candlemas Day be fair and bright

Winter will take another flight.

If Candlemas Day be cloud and rain

Winter is gone and will not come again.

February 2 is Groundhog Day, and also Candlemas in ancient traditions. Both festivals mark the first stirrings of spring in the cycle of the year. February 2 is halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, the time when dark days wane and the light grows stronger. Candlemas takes its name from a time when every household made their own candles for daily use. WE WILL CELEBRATE ON FEBRUARY 3 with candle dipping, songs, and stories.
