Capital of the Yukon

Whitehorse, Yukon Territory — We drove to Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon Territory, Monday, working our way up into the mountains again.

Once, when we stopped for gas, there were a lot of yellow-sweatered retirees in the restaurant – it is not unusual for places with gas to also have a restaurant, restrooms (which in Canada are called wash rooms) and sometimes an RV park as well – and I gathered that they were all on an RV camping trip together.

We got to Whitehorse around dinner time and after setting up went to town to find something to eat. We had a good map of the town, and a cell signal for Google Maps directions and without too much difficulty found our way to TripAdvisor's most recommended restaurant. Which had a line in front of it. So, deciding that number 2, the Burnt Toast Cafe, sounded like a breakfast place, we opted for number 3, also well reviewed.

It was a very nice place which, unfortunately, turned out to be Caribbean – not a favorite of Maureen's. By that time, she was hungry and tired enough of driving around to stay put anyway. So we each ordered the teriyaki pork loin. It was attractively presented, with gently steamed veggies and little Caribbean potato cakes. The pork was under a sauce that had more in it than just teriyaki sauce, which Maureen scraped off, but she was a very good sport about it – it's tough to eat in a restaurant where you don't like the food. She did seem to enjoy the beer she ordered, a local brew called Yukon Red.

We did some wash when we got back to the RV park, and Cushla got a little pork to go with her dinner.

Today we head for Beaver Creek, our last stop before we get to Alaska.
