Sep 03, 2020

Ellsworth — Belvedere Historic Preservation and Energy Efficiency Fund announced today it has awarded $345,000 to 25 Maine organizations, among them Carver Memorial Library in Searsport and Freedom Community Historical Society.

Carver Memorial Library Association has been awarded $19,500 to replace its heating system, insulate the attic, and convert downstairs lighting to LED, to increase energy efficiency and comfort, as recommended by a 2019 energy audit.

Freedom Historical Society has been awarded $16,796 to complete Phase 3: total flooring construction, refinishing; garage wall construction and clapboard replacement, and painting at historic Keen Hall, home of Carter B. Keen, who worked in President Grover Cleveland's administration. The Keen family later gave the house to Freedom Academy for its headmaster's quarters.

The Belvedere Historic Preservation and Energy Efficiency Fund supports the preservation, restoration, and retrofitting of historic buildings in Maine. An anonymous donor established the fund in 2007. It is administered by Maine Community Foundation.
