CAMDEN — Independent Rep. Owen Casas has formally announced he will run for re-election for Maine House District 94, representing Camden, Rockport and Islesboro. Casas has qualified to be placed on the General Election ballot in November and is rerunning as a Maine Clean Election candidate.

Casas will hold an end-of-session Town Hall May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Washington Street Conference room in Camden. He will discuss work completed, and left unfinished,  by the 128th Maine Legislature as well as field questions from the public.

Casas said he "is eager to continue working hard for the good folks of District 94."

“I feel like there is a lot of unfinished business for me to tackle in Augusta, like Medicaid expansion, combating the opioid crisis, growing Maine’s economic competitiveness, helping to retain and attract young families, increasing transparency on political contributions, consumer protections, veteran and senior care, and environmental stewardship… just to name a few,” he said in a press release May 7.

There is a steep learning curve in Augusta, Casas said, and a second term will afford him seniority to continue bridging the partisan divide.

“Even as a first term Representative, I was able to quickly learn legislative procedures, hit the ground running and work successfully with members of both parties to forge common-sense compromises," he said. "This will only grow during my second term and aid in high-functioning government.”

Casas is serving his first term in the Maine House of Representatives and is on the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee. Throughout this legislative term, he continued his service on the Rockport Select Board and will leave as Board Vice Chairman this June, after completing his three-year term.
