Celebrate V-Day by honoring women's voices

Feb 02, 2020

Belfast — The community is invited to observe V-Day 2020: End Violence Against Women and Girls via Raise the Vibration, a gathering Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Playhouse, 107 Church St.

Everyone is encouraged to share poetry, readings, artwork, music and dance — original or from those who inspire. This will be an honoring of women's voices and lives, as well as honoring Mother Earth, but all are welcome. If possible, please send copies of poetry and readings to assist ASL interpreters to bridginghandsasl@gmail.com before Feb. 12; if not, bring an extra paper copy with you if possible.

Participants gather in solidarity with the international movement, V-Day, to Raise the Vibration. "What we can do is remember we are the many and we can Raise the Vibration through action, art, connection, imagination and love. That is why we do theater, art, music, poetry, dance. That is why we stand in the face of injustice and are just." — Eve Ensler, activist and author of “The Vagina Monologues."

In 2020, there are still one in three women and girls who will experience sexual violence in their lives; the number of missing and murdered indigenous women is rising; and Mother Earth and her creatures are suffering. Despite this, we persist! Women continue to lead in resistance and truth-telling. Raise the vibration.

All donations collected will support New Hope for Women. For more information, call Meredith at 338-5089 or email Nicolle at wmninthemoon@gmail.com.
