Church to follow “The Way” during Lent

The Aldersgate United Methodist Church, located at 15 Wesley Lane, across from Lake Chickawaukie, will frame its journey toward Easter using themes from the movie “The Way”.  “’The Way’ is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage ‘The Way of St. James’ to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and oftentimes amusing experiences along ‘The Way,’ Tom discovers the difference between ‘the life we live and the life we choose.’”  (http://theway-themovie.com/film.php)   Special thanks to Dr. Marcia McFee, a nationally renowned worship coach, and The Worship Design Studio (worshipdesignstudio.com) for the inspiration and usage of this series.

Beginning on Sunday, February 14, at 10:30 am, the various themes from the movie will be integrated with scriptures that are signposts for the Christian life.  At 4 pm, on that same day, there will be a free screening of the film (complete with popcorn).  Worshipers will receive a “passport” at the outset with verses, poems and hymn lyrics to aid in devotional deepening of their spiritual pilgrimage.  The passports will be “stamped” each week to assist each person to “stay on track”.  The “trip” will conclude during Holy Week with worship on Palm Sunday, March 20, 10:30 am, Maundy Thursday, March 24, 6 pm, Good Friday, March 25, 6 pm, special events on Holy Saturday, March 26 (Community Easter Egg Hunt at 10 am for the benefit of the Knox County Animal Shelter) and Easter, Sunday, March 27 (Sunrise service at 6 am with Easter Breakfast to follow and worship at 10:30).  Weekly, throughout Lent, there will be Sunday School for all ages at 9 am.
