County GOP candidates announce 'Drive for Independence' July 4

Event to serve as food drive
Jun 29, 2020

On the Fourth of July, Waldo County candidates for Maine Senate and House will conduct a food drive as part of a rolling observance of the 244th anniversary of U.S. independence.

Residents are invited to break out "Old Glory" and make some noise and show support along the route.

The “parade alternative” will pass through the majority of towns in the county and make stops at several locations where they will be accepting non-perishable food donations. Residents are asked to come out to assist neighbors in need.

The route begins at 11:30 a.m., following the Brooks Independence Day observance at the town's Veterans' Memorial at 10 a.m.

“With many traditional Fourth of July celebrations canceled this year, we thought it was important to not only observe the holiday publicly, but also do something meaningful for our community,” said Col. Duncan Milne, a resident of Liberty who is running for the District 11 (Waldo County) Senate seat.

Participating candidates in addition to Milne are Rep. MaryAnne Kinney, Jessica Connor, Katrina Smith, and Rep. Sherm Hutchins.
