Bar Harbor — In what has become an annual celebration and acknowledgement of strong work by the Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports department, the group again earned tremendous distinction at the annual Maine Press Association awards ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The team of Mark Haskell, Holly Vanorse Spicer and Ken Waltz earned individual and group acknowledgement from the MPA.

In fact, as has been the case for many years, the newspaper sports sections created by the group swept the top places in two divisions.

The work by the team in the company's three print products, The Courier-Gazette, The Camden Herald and The Republican Journal, as well as the two websites, knox.villagesoup.com and waldo.villagesoup.com, were showcased.

Waltz, the company's sports director, said: "These awards demonstrate, again, our company's — and our department's — commitment to excellence, our unwavering desire to be inclusive and not exclusive, to be diverse and comprehensive, to try, to the best of our abilities, to shine a spotlight on the stories and accomplishments important to the communities in our coverage area, a geographical expanse from Searsport to Waldoboro, that also includes three Penobscot Bay islands. We remain dedicated to hard work, attention to detail, consistent excellence, professionalism and the never-ending desire to serve our communities. I am proud, on a daily basis, of the work Mark, Holly and I do together as a team."
