Belfast — The Belfast football team averaged 24 points through the first two weeks of the season, but has seen its average dip of late, most recently following the team’s Friday, Oct. 18 high school game again Old Town at Dennis “Bear” Bryant Field.

The Lions managed only eight points, which was not enough against the offensive-minded Coyotes, who prowled to a 34-8 win over the hosts.

Belfast’s lone score came off a 15-yard bootleg run by quarterback Dylan Abbott, who then connected with tight end Isaac Bernosky for the two-point conversion.

“The bottom line with this game was we just had too many mental mistakes,” said Belfast coach Brian Goff. “I thought Old Town also controlled both lines of scrimmage better than we did. They made plays when they had the opportunity and we didn’t. Add it all up and Old Town was definitely deserving of the win."

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Belfast (4-3, 96.3857 points) is sixth, while Winslow (6-1, 132.1286 points) is first in the 11-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
