Dance on the footbridge with Sassafras Stomp

Aug 09, 2019
Sassafras Stomp plays for the Aug. 23 dance on Belfast's Armistice Footbridge.

BELFAST — Belfast Flying Shoes, the nonprofit that produces first Friday community and contra dances, continues the "Dancing in the Park" series on Friday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m. on the Armistice Footbridge. Rain date is Aug. 24.

Chrissy Fowler will call dances to lively fiddle tunes played by Sassafras Stomp (Johanna Davis and Adam Nordell). These participatory New England social dances are for all ages and experience levels; bring your friends and family.

The "Dancing in the Park" series celebrates both participatory dance and public parks. Come early and visit the local galleries during the Fourth Friday Art Walk. Check out a local restaurant for a meal or a post-dance social. Stroll along the Harbor Walk or trek up the Belfast Rail Trail.

"Dancing in the Park" is an outreach program of Belfast Flying Shoes, and is made possible with the support of the City of Belfast Parks & Recreation Department, the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad, the Brooks Preservation Society, the Coastal Mountains Land Trust, the Roxanne Quimby Foundation, the Waldo County Trails Coalition and WERU-FM Community Radio.
