Direct services grant program accepting applications

Feb 06, 2019

Portland — The John T. Gorman Foundation’s 2019 Direct Services Grant Program is now open to nonprofit organizations working to provide quality supports and services that address the immediate basic needs of economically disadvantaged people in Maine. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. Monday, April 1.

Eligible programs are those that address the basic needs of low-income Mainers, such as food, shelter, clothing, physical and mental health and transportation. The foundation will only consider requests that support the direct provision of client services versus support for organizational infrastructure needs, such as database creation, strategic planning, staff training and organizational evaluation.

The foundation will consider grant requests of up to $25,000, from a broad spectrum of nonprofit organizations that provide direct services under existing programs over a 12-month period. Applicant organizations may submit one request for DSGP funding each year.

The Direct Services Grant Program provides both program/project funding and general operating support. Applicant organizations applying for general operating support must have a mission that includes helping low-income Maine residents and a successful track record of providing direct services to address clients’ immediate basic needs.
