Documenting the documentarian

Oct 03, 2017
Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado has spent decades documenting deprived societies in hidden corners of the world.

Belfast — The second screening of the new Films for Waking Up series will feature “The Salt of the Earth” (2014, France/Brazil/Italy), a documentary/biography of photographer Sebastião Delgado, Friday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Road/Route 3.

“Salt of the Earth” presents Delgado's story of following his calling utilizing images to meet the suffering of the world, the beauty of the world and, through disillusionment, into new purpose and hope.

Films for Waking Up offers an opportunity to experience images, sounds, environments and relationships that viewers may or may not have direct experience with. After this viewing, using inter-relational inquiry, participants will explore reactions, feelings and insights with the intention of deepening self-knowledge.     Knowing ourselves more thoroughly is the basis for greater acceptance and compassion for ourselves and others.

Suggested donation is $10. RSVP is requested at hank.reisner33@gmail.com.
