Augusta — Sen. Erin Herbig, D-Waldo County, honored Kay Dodd in the Senate Chamber for her 37 years of service as an administrative assistant at Gladys A. Weymouth Elementary School in Morrill.

Dodd traveled to Augusta with her family to receive a Legislative Sentiment. In her remarks on the Senate floor, Sen. Herbig thanked Dodd on behalf of the Maine Legislature. She is retiring at the end of this school term.

“Mrs. Dodd has welcomed generations of students, building bridges with families and opening doors for our kids,” Herbig said. “Known as caring and compassionate, Mrs. Dodd sets an example for us all. Thank you for your service to families in Morrill and to the people of Waldo County and the state of Maine.”

Principal Lori Smail said that staying in the same place for so many years is a testament to Dodd’s commitment to the community and the school.

“If a child or parent needs her, she’ll make the time to meet their needs while still doing the administrative work she needs to do,” Smail said. “She’s a wealth of knowledge. I’m sure I’ll be reaching out and picking her brain next year!”

A Legislative Sentiment is a significant expression of the Maine Legislature to honor notable achievements. If you know of someone who should be recognized, please contact Sen. Herbig at 287-1515 or Erin.Herbig@legislature.maine.gov.
