Downtown cleanup requires motorists to park off street

Searsport — The Searsport Police Department is asking residents to park off Main Street, specifically through the area spanning from Elm Street to Bangor Savings Bank, to allow for street sweeping and cleanup Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 7.

Seasrsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye suggested residents who would typically park street side to instead leave their vehicles in the municipal lot near Tozier's Family Market or at an alternate location for the duration of the project, Both sides of the street will be roped off as the cleanup is conducted.

On Tuesday, LaHaye said a Maine Department of Transportation crew will come through town with a street sweeper, and on Wednesday, the town highway crew is scheduled to wash down that section of the street.
