Old Favorites and a Few Surprises

Driscoll performs benefit concert

Aug 10, 2017

Belfast — Friends of Belfast Free Library will offer an afternoon with Mary Anne Driscoll, performing an informal concert of Old Favorites and a Few Surprises, Sunday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. at the library, 106 High St.

Well known in the area as a composer, performer and educator, Driscoll will present a program of jazz standards as a benefit concert; donations will go toward library programs.

The California-born Driscoll sang and scatted jazz standards at home with her Uncle Charley and played piano by ear. Sacred and classical music provided an integral part of daily education at school and a resource for conducting. She studied and explored music formally at College of San Mateo and San Francisco State; and she composed, arranged performed in new music ensembles, paving the way for her journey to the east.

While in New York, Driscoll recorded original, ensemble and improvised work at CBS and RCA studios, in lofts, clubs, concerts and recordings with legendary musicians. In Maine since 1990, she leads ensembles; collaborates with artists, dancers, poets and musicians in the states, Europe and Japan; and gives workshops and private lessons.
