Belmont — A  Chrysler SUV went off the road and struck a utility pole after a bee entered the vehicle and distracted the driver Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21.

A 16-year-old male was driving east on Back Belmont Road at around 3:30 p.m. in Belmont near the Belfast line. According to Officer Eric Kelley, the driver began swatting at a bee and then lost control of the vehicle, went into the gulley and hit the pole.

Kelley said the driver suffered minor injuries. Belfast Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded, along with police.

Central Maine Power was on scene, as well, to assess damage to the utility pole.
