Belfast — A local man was taken to the hospital Friday morning after his car went off the road, struck a tree and landed in a ditch.

James Grendell, 52, of Frankfort was traveling east on Poors Mill Road in Belfast when, according to Belfast Police Officer Jonathan Guba, he passed out, hit a tree and then struck a mailbox.

Belfast Ambulance service took Grendell to Waldo County General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

No signs of drugs or alcohol were evident, Guba said, and no charges were filed.

Belfast Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.
