The Playhouse Teen Theater Company presents “Drop Dead,” a farcical play-within-a-play comedy, in Belfast. The cast includes, fornt from left, Pia Gibson, Ada Potter and Amelia Jacobson; and, in back, Isobel Kelly, Laila Al-Matrouk, Syd Sanders, Finn Gibson, Romy LaFage and Oliver Howard. Belfast — “Drop Dead,” featuring the Teen Theater Company of The Playhouse theater, will open Thursday, Feb. 15, with a special Benefit With Desserts performance at 7:30 p.m.

Originally set to open the previous week, the show has pushed its performances up. "Drop Dead" will continue Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 16 through 24, at 7:30 p.m.; and the run will conclude with a 4 p.m. matinees Sunday, Feb. 25.

“Drop Dead” is built around a play-within-a-play of incompetent performers, a bad script, big egos and serious buffoonery. A cast of has-been actors plans to revive their careers in "Drop Dead!" — a potboiler murder mystery directed by "Wonder Child of the Broadway Stage" Victoria La Pewe. At the dress rehearsal, the set falls, props break and the producer and an actor are murdered. During the opening night performance, the murders continue. The remaining thespians must save the show, and their careers, solve the mystery … and stay alive for curtain calls.

The Playhouse, 107 Church St., is an intimate theater with limited seating; call 338-5777 for reservations. Tickets are $10, $5 for students, at the door. The show is directed by Mary Weaver.
