Dynamic duo at Unity College Centre

Nov 27, 2012
Chris Stout and Catriona McKay

Unity — Skye Theatre will present Chris Stout, featured soloist on the soundtrack of Pixar blockbuster movie “Brave,” and Catriona McKay Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St. Tickets are $20.

Having gigged, explored and sculpted their musical identities together for 15 years now, McKay (Scottish harp) and Stout (Shetland fiddle) continue to evolve and create a sound and style all their perfected own. The crafting of their voice as a duo has drawn them to explore new music and new ideas for this partnership of traditional instruments.

Born and brought up in the Shetland Islands, Stout has, over the last few years, become nationally and internationally recognized as one of the most exciting and dynamic fiddle players and composers of his generation.

McKay was brought up in Dundee, Scotland,  and became harp champion at the O’Carolan International Harp Festival. She earned a degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In addition to performing with Stout, she tours worldwide with the Shetland-based band Fiddlers’ Bid.
