Searsport — A fire that broke out in an outbuilding on Brock Road early Friday morning, May 2, resulted in the death of 22 chickens and rendered the structure a total loss.

Searsport Fire Chief Andy Webster said the report of the fire came in at about 2:15 a.m. Friday morning. The blaze was at the property of Kenneth Strickland Jr., which is located at 82 Brock Road.

"The homeowner's boy got home at one o'clock, and everything was fine then," said Webster.

Webster said aside from the loss of the birds, no one was hurt.

Firefighters knocked down the flames and cleared the scene in about an hour and 15 minutes, Webster said.
