Freedom — Freedom Makers Studio, located in the village at 25 Main St. in the old Knights of Pythias Hall (diagonally across from the Mill at Freedom Falls), will host a presentation by Cassandra Lishman of Lammas Ecovillage in the Pembrokeshire Hills of Wales Sunday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be available and the store will be open.

Lammas Ecovillage is a pioneering homesteading community in Wales that developed under the One Planet Development scheme that permits and encourages off-grid homesteads on farmland in Wales. Lishman will talk about the origins of the community and how the nine homesteads that are part of the ecovillage work towards self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods and building a cohesive community.

Lishman also is a willow sculpture artist, using many species of willows grown on her homestead. Everyone is invited to come hear about this unique multi-age community and welcome her to our community of homesteaders, makers and sustainability leaders.

Freedom Makers Studio host Lissa Widoff lived with Lishman at Lammas during the summer of 2014, where she learned about dry stonewalling, cob roundhouses, willow lathe and plaster … and how cold and windy it is in June on the Welsh coast.

Freedom Makers Studio is an art gallery and community hub for local Waldo County artists and makers. Holiday storefront hours are Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m.; and Sundays starting Dec. 10 from noon to 4 p.m., with other times by appointment or chance. For more information, visit the Freedom Makers Studio Facebook Page and website, freedommakersstudio.com; call Widoff at 322-6553; or email freedommakersstudio@gmail.com.
