Sheafe wins DAR scholarship

The Maine Daughters of the American Revolution, Penobscot Expedition Chapter, has awarded a $500 scholarship to Zachary T. Sheafe of Belfast.

Sheafe, the son of Tyler Sheafe of Belfast and Melanie Bragg of Appleton, graduated in the top five of his class from Belfast Area High School in 2017. He is majoring in biochemistry/pre-med at the University of Maine in Orono.

Local seniors are Presidential Scholar candidates

Three Midcoast high school seniors have been named among more than 4,500 candidates in the 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, considered to be one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. They are Emily K. Lau from Islesboro Central School, and Jackson Donnelly and Dominic Francis-Mezger, both from Searsport District High School.

Semifinalists will be announced early April and as many as 161 Scholars in May. Scholars will be invited to Washington, D.C., in June to receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a White House-sponsored recognition ceremony.

Winterport man named to Cedarville Dean's List

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Cedarville University student Kurt Speed of Winterport, whose major is biblical studies - accelerated, was named to the Cedarville University Dean's List for fall 2018. This recognition required Speed to maintain a 3.5 GPA for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Dean's List honors for Thorndike woman

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Betsy Hunt of Thorndike has made the Plymouth State University Dean's List for the fall 2018 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must achieve a GPA between 3.5 and 3.69. Hunt is an adventure education major.

Sturdevant makes Dean's List with highest honors

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Emma Sturdevant of Belfast has been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the McDaniel College fall 2018 Dean's List with highest honors.

Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher.

Prospect student named to Worcester Polytechnic Dean's List

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced that Johann Bradley of Prospect, a member of the class of 2021 majoring in management engineering, was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2018 semester.

WPI defines Dean's List achievement by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
