Election 2020 - April Turner - Candidate: Maine House District #99

April Turner, a Democrat and Freedom resident, is running for the Maine House of Representatives in District 99, seeking to represent the towns of Brooks, Burnham, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Monroe, Troy, Thorndike and Unity.

She is hoping to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. MaryAnne Kinney of Knox, who is seeking her fourth term in office. This is Turner's third attempt to win the seat.

An advocate for health care, mental health treatment, and the education and safety of children, Turner's priority is to help people with what they need to thrive, according to a press release from her campaign.

“Protecting the rights of seniors, addressing food insecurity, and funding education as a way to reduce property taxes are the things my community cares most about,” Turner said. “I haven’t seen that our current representative focuses on those issues.”

Turner will push for more oversight of nursing facilities during the pandemic and advocate for more support of essential workers. She hopes to create affordable housing in rural communities, and to protect seniors who depend on Social Security and the critical services they rely on, including the U.S. Postal Service, to remain at home, the release said.
