Environmental legislation talk Jan. 21

Jan 06, 2014

Belfast — Judy Berk, communications director of the National Resources Council of Maine will give an update on Maine environmental laws, including proposed legislation for the upcoming legislative sessions in Augusta at the Tuesday, Jan. 21 meeting of the Belfast Garden Club. It will be held at 2 p.m. in the vestry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 95 Court St., Belfast and is free and open to the public.

The NRCM is Maine’s environmental leader, a nonprofit, Maine-based organization working to protect the environment on many fronts, mostly at the state level. But because federal policies can have serious impact here, NRCM also works with Maine’s Congressional delegation on issues affecting our state.

Berk has been with NRCM since 1991. Her past careers include environmental writer, co-founder of Maine’s Energy Extension Service, and executive director of the Maine Solar Energy Association. She is an avid organic gardener, and her Northport garden has been on display in the Garden Club’s Open Garden Days.
