Unity, Maine – A professional with a history of creating strong giving programs has been named Development Officer at Unity College.
Erica Hutchinson will participate in Unity College’s comprehensive fundraising efforts within the Department of Development, overseen by Executive Vice President and Liaison to the Board of Trustees Dr. Melik Peter Khoury.
Hutchinson will increase both annual and capital support for the College, soliciting and securing gifts for annual fund and academic priorities.  Working closely with the Director of Development, she will develop strategies for gift soliciting and facilitate appropriate recognition for donors in collaboration with the Department of Marketing.
Previously as Development Director at the Charlotte White Center in Bangor, Maine, Hutchinson created the agency’s first development office.  She shepherded donors through the giving process, developed and implemented successful fundraising events, managed marketing and public relations activities, and researched and wrote grants, in addition to successfully pursuing other development activities.
Her community involvement is extensive including service on the S.A.D. 22 Board of Directors, where she was Finance Committee Chair and a member of the Curriculum Committee; Maine School Board Association as President and on the Legislative Committee; among other community related volunteer activities.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development from Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire.
In recent years Unity College has gained national attention for a variety of achievements including its focus on sustainability science, the leading-edge of 21st century ecological problem solving and the vanguard in the fight for the mitigation of global climate change; its ground-breaking green innovations such as the award-winning TerraHaus, the first student residence on a college or university campus built to the Passive House standard, the most energy efficient building standard in the world; and being the first college in the United States to divest from investments in fossil fuels, igniting a growing national movement in higher education.
Through the framework of sustainability science, Unity College provides a liberal arts education that emphasizes the environment and natural resources. Through experiential and collaborative learning, our graduates emerge as responsible citizens, environmental stewards, and visionary leaders.
