Join Midcoast Conservancy for a day of hiking and delicious food! The third annual Goosepecker Trekker will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will highlight a section of the 46-mile Hills to Sea Trail.

Stretching from Unity to Belfast, the trail network crosses more than 60 landowners’ properties and offers some of the finest Midcoast Maine hiking to be found.

The Trekker route will start in Montville and end near the Freedom General Store. From there, hikers will head to Villageside Farm just up the road in Freedom for a delicious locally sourced farm lunch, along with beer from Marshall Wharf Brewing.

Hikers will meet at the parking lot of the Freedom Mill between 8:30 and 9 a.m., then be shuttled to the trailhead several miles away. The hike is 3.5 miles, but a shorter, family-friendly route will also be available, complete with scavenger hunt. The $15 registration fee includes lunch and a beer. Kids 3-12 are $7, and under-3 year olds are free.

“The featured trail network is one example of the astounding diversity and majesty of Waldo County’s trails," said Anna Fiedler, Midcoast Conservancy director of land conservation. "This event will be an opportunity to experience and celebrate this wilderness and raise funds to ensure that lands in the region are protected for future generations to use.”
