‘Eye in the Sky’ looks at drone warfare

Feb 09, 2019

Belfast — February's Friday Night Flix at the Belfast Free Library are films set in War's Shadow. All the movie screenings are free and take place Fridays at 7 p.m. in the Abbott Room of the library, 106 High St.

The series, hosted by Karen Gleeson and Paul Sheridan, continues Feb. 15 with “Eye in the Sky” (2015, UK/Canada), which raises the issue of drone warfare — killing at a distance. Helen Mirren stars as the British commander of an anti-terrorist operation in Kenya. In the midst of a planned operation to kill known terrorists, a young girl suddenly enters the kill zone. The international team of operators must then decide their next moves: whether to continue or abort a mission that may save many lives at the cost of one innocent. The film also stars Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman and Barkhad Abdi.

The R-rated film runs 102 minutes and is in English and Somali with subtitles. This month’s series concludes Feb. 22 with “A Perfect Day” (2015, Spain).
