Thorndike — Waldo County may not, at first glace, appear to be a hotbed for semi-professional athletes. However, at this rate, the area could be the home base for a legitimate championship semi-pro football team.

The Midcoast Falcons, who last year debuted in the New England Football League (NEFL), are on a roll this fall and have an undefeated season in their grasps.

In the 10-team league, which has both a North and South Division, the Falcons (6-0) are the only unbeaten squad, with their most recent win being a 33-6 victory over the Bay State Bulldogs. The league has teams from all over New England.

The Falcons compete in the Single-A North Division. The NEFL has 44 teams spanning three classes and 10 divisions.

The Falcons play their home game at Larrabee Field in Knox. Previously, the Falcons shared their home venue with the Mount View High School football team, which recently played its first home game at their new field on the school's campus in Thorndike.

The Falcons are led by head coach Rich Mills, assistant coach Michael Barton and line coach James MacArthur. Most of the players reside in Waldo, Knox or Lincoln counties, but also come from other central Maine areas.

The Falcons have two road games remaining on their schedule, including on Saturday, Sept. 15 against the Gardner Sabercats and on Saturday, Sept. 29 against the Notre Dame Cobras. The Falcons already have clinched a playoff spot and will host at least one home game in the postseason, but could host throughout the playoffs should the squad win its final two regular-season games.

The Midcoast Falcons' roster include Brent Hewett (wide receiver/strong safety), Kyle Gleason (running back/wide receiver/defensive back), Cory Bezanson (halfback/strong safety), Darelle Brown (quarterback/strong safety), Vito D. Colaneri Jr. (quarterback), Tim Lamoureux (quarterback), Shawn White (defensive line), Nicolas Garnett (quarterback/wide receiver), Seth Sutter (tight end/defensive back), Cody Grasruck (linebacker), John Houghton (defensive back), Matt Moody (cornerback), Jason Garbinski (tight end), Steven Brown (cornerback), Shane Beal (running back/wide receiver/defensive back), Andrew Mudie (defensive back), Eric Bezanson (fullback/linebacker), Joseph Lozon (defensive back), Obed Rinvil (free sarety/linebacker), Sherman Keith (running back/linebacker), Justin Lowe (fullback/linebacker), Stephen Larrabee (defensive tackle), Shawn Blair (defensive tackle), Don Resh Jr. (linebacker), Eddy Rodrigues (defensive end/outside linebacker), Brian Guerette (running back/linebacker), Kokou Noulilo (defensive end/outside linebacker), Anthony D'Amico (defensive tackle), Josh Ricker (center), Brock Pollis (offensive lineman), Leve Lane Jr. (lineman), Phillip Rogers (lineman), Michael Barton (defensive tackle), Tim Parker (offensive lineman), Chris Hubbard (offensive lineman), Billy Ray Denman (wide receiver), Allen McLamb (wide receiver), Mark Ensworth (wide receiver), Jeremiah Lindelof (defensive end), Dave DeMerchant (offensive line), Shane Sours (tight end), Josh Gage (defensive end) and Jim Davis (defensive tackle).
