Family Dollar robbed at gunpoint on Christmas Eve

Unity — The perpetrator of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar store in Unity on Christmas Eve remains at large, according to a press release from the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

Police say the cashier of the discount store, located at 145 School St., called 911 at about about 7:30 p.m. Dec. 24 to report the crime. Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and were helped by Maine State Police.

During the investigation, police learned that the perpetrator had threatened the cashier with a pistol. Employees reported the suspect, identified as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build, was wearing dark clothing and had his face covered with a mask.

According to the press release, the cashier turned over an unreported amount of money, and the perpetrator fled the scene on foot.

Police attempted to track the robber with a K-9 but were unsuccessful. No arrest has been made at this time. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information is encouraged to call Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at 338-2040.
