Belfast — A Belfast institution changed hands last week, but much remains the same. Greg Dutch, who owned the former Dutch Chevrolet Buick dealership, said he sold the business to Mark Politte, owner of Stanley Subaru in Ellsworth, and longtime Stanley employee Neil Harriman July 21.

All of Dutch's employees have been retained, Dutch said, and he himself will stay on as comptroller for three to five years. The only thing that has changed, he said, is the name, which is now Stanley Chevrolet Buick. Harriman is the new general manager.

Asked why he sold the dealership, Dutch joked, "Well, I've got to get towards a retirement at some point." More seriously, he added that his son and daughter have careers in other fields and Politte is a longtime friend for whom he has high regard. "Neil and Mark are wonderful people who really understand taking care of customers," he said, which was why he chose to sell to them.

Dutch said the dealership had been in his family for 94 years.
