Belfast — Flutist Maho Hisakawa and pianist Barbara Kemp will present a concert Sunday, Aug. 12, at 3 p.m., in the Gammans Room of Belfast Public Library, 106 High St. The concert will benefit the Friends of Belfast Free Library in its support of the library.

The concert program includes music by Richard Rodney Bennett, Poulenc, J.S. Bach, Ravel, Haydn and the world premiere of local composer Nathan J. Hillman’s “Mourning Song.” All are invited, and refreshments will be served. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Hisakawa studied flute through high school; in 2012, after a 15-year break, she returned to music and made it her focus. She has studied with Nicole Rabata and Steve Weston; has played with the Colby Symphony Orchestra; is a member of the Odeon Adult Orchestra at Bay Chamber Music School; and founded Windfern Ensemble in 2016; and plays in several ensembles for concerts, weddings and receptions.

Kemp grew up in San Francisco where she began her piano studies at age 4. Early in her career, she was privileged to appear twice as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, once under the direction of Arthur Fiedler. At San Francisco State University she studied chamber music with cellist Zara Nelsova and Symphony violist Ferenc Molnar. She performed throughout Northern California as a soloist and chamber musician; and was associate pianist for the San Jose Symphony, Mendocino Music Festival Orchestra and Symphony of the Redwoods, as well as the Johns Hopkins Symphony. She taught piano for more than 40 years. She has resided in Belfast since 2012.
