Former minister to preach at First Church July 8

Past clergy visit for 200th anniversary
Jul 02, 2018

As part of the 200th anniversary celebration of the building of The First Church in Belfast sanctuary, a number of former pastors are visiting throughout the year.

On April 2, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Showalter (pastor at First Church from 1976 to 1987) and his wife were here and Showalter gave a presentation on Congregational Church history, which about 70 people attended.

On Sunday, July 8, at the 10 a.m. worship service, the Rev. Dr. Marc Stewart (pastor at First Church from 1988 to 1993) and his wife will be here. Stewart will preach and members and friends will have a chance to visit with them after worship during the coffee hour.

Since 2012, Stewart has been conference minister for the Montana-North Wyoming Conference of the United Church of Christ. He also served as conference minister for the South Dakota Conference, and has served as pastor for numerous congregations as well. The community is invited to come and hear his message.

The First Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation, ADA-accessible, located at 104 Church St. For more information, call the church office at 338-2282.
