Knox — Kevin J. Randall, 18, of Knox, was arrested July 31 in connection with a threat directed at Mount View School.

According to a press release issued Friday afternoon by Waldo County Sheriff's Office, Randall, a former Mount View student, was linked to a photograph of a firearm posted on social media with written a threat directed at the school.

"It came in the form of a Snapchat that was sent to a group of people," Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton said. "It was a picture of a rifle, and the caption under the picture said, 'Look out Mount View.'"

Trafton said the message was not sent while school was in session. Police learned about it on July 22 from a Unity resident who saw the post, he said.

Randall was arrested without incident on a warrant for terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony. Trafton said the former student initially claimed the message was a joke. Randall appeared before a judge on Aug. 1 and was released after posting $500 cash bail, according to the news release.

In addition, Randall must abide by the terms of a Maine Pre-Trail contract, the release said.  He is scheduled to appear in Belfast Unified Court Sept. 11.

School Resource Officer Jordan Tozier is the primary investigator in the case.
